After being awarded the Provincial Winner for Munster, the Woodlands House Hotel was up against the Provincial Winner for Leinster, The Silken Thomas in Kildare and the Provincial Winner for Connaught/ Ulster, The Hodson Bay Hotel, Co Roscommon in a final round of mystery dining.

The standard of competition this year was exceptional as venues were scored on the quality and taste of each element of their roast as well as the overall customer experience. Each of the finalists had a point of difference that made them stand out during judging; warm and welcoming staff, support of local suppliers, careful preparation of the ingredients and ultimately, the taste of the final plate.

David Fitzgerald, General Manager at Fitzgerald’s Woodlands House Hotel said of the win: “We’re absolutely delighted for everyone here at the hotel to win Ireland’s Favourite Roast. The hotel is a family run business that takes great pride in everything we do. Our food philosophy is based on working with locally grown, seasonal ingredients, which are either sourced from our suppliers or grown in our own organic farm. We truly believe this translates to the finest plate of food possibly served.”

Audrey Crone, Executive Chef at Unilever Food Solutions highlighted the standard of the food this year. “Each of the three finalists are all worthy winners of their provincial titles. It’s a strong endorsement of the time and effort that goes into preparing quality food that they have been recognised with their win. However, there can only be one overall winner and the Woodlands House Hotel impressed our judges to clinch the title of Ireland’s Favourite Roast.

“It’s more important than ever that we look to support local producers and suppliers. I really believe customers appreciate knowing where their food comes from and appreciate that they are helping maintain the local supply chain at a time that it needs it most.”

Jim Reeves, Customer Director at Unilever Food Solutions said: “We were delighted to see the level of entry to this year’s competition from right across the country. And, especially pleased to see a large number of first-time entrants. The commitment and pride that goes into preparing, cooking and serving excellent food to customers every day should be applauded and this competition goes some way to acknowledge those efforts.”
